| St
Gregory’s was established in 1955 with The
Rev. Michael J. Francis as its Vicar. A 31-member
congregation celebrated the first religious service
on June 12, 1955. In September, 1957, construction
began on the multi-purpose building and church
school facility and was blessed by the Bishop
on February 23, 1958. St. Gregory's was a self-supporting
mission until 1965 when it attained parish status
at the annual diocesan convention. The cornerstone
was laid and the church was dedicated in December,
1967.
After the retirement
of Fr. Francis in 1979, the Rev. George W. McClaren
was elected as the new Rector in August, 1980.
Vigorous parish growth made it possible to burn
the mortgage on the church in September, 1988.
The Rev. Stephen
L. Williams succeeded Fr. McClaren as Rector
in December, 2000.
The parish hall was renamed
Francis Hall in honor of the founding rector,
and after several years of planning was remodeled
in 1993. A columbarium with 96 niches was installed
in the church.
St. Gregory's is a worship-oriented church,
known for its friendliness and for the opportunities
for newcomers and members to become actively
involved in a wide range of worship and outreach
ministries.
